Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens located almost in downtown Akron Ohio (USA) was the site of the inaugural Concours d'Elegance in the fall of 2014. The impetus behind the event was David Schultz, well known organizer and judge on the concours "circuit". Many will remember Schultz from the Glenmoor Gathering previously held in not-to-distant Canton Ohio until its demise in 2013.
Located on 70 acres, the house was built in 1912 and is the former home of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company co-founder F. A. Sieberling. At 64,500 sq ft with 65 rooms, 23 bathrooms and 23 fireplaces, it is, well, large.
If there is such a thing as a "perfect" setting for a concours, this could well be it. Beautiful large open spaces, magnificent gardens and the beautiful Tudor Revival house "on the hill".
"Stan Hywet" is Old English for stone quarry, the property's most prominent natural feature.
